England and India have now completed their four match Test series and it was of course the tourists that claimed a famous victory. Now though, they head into a two match Twenty20 series and England will be looking to put the icing on the cake for the winter, whereas India are out for revenge.
The first encounter gets underway in Pune on Thursday and both sides are likely to make a number of changes to their starting elevens.
Jonny Bairstow, Samit Patel, Joe Root and Tim Bresnan are the only players involved in this squad that took part in the Test matches, so they will be looking to use their experience in these conditions to help the team.
There will be a new captain for England as well as the usual T20 skipper, Stuart Broad, has flown home with an injury. That means that Eoin Morgan will lead the side out and he is sure to want to set an example for the rest of the squad with some explosive innings in the middle order.
Despite their recent success, the bookmakers seem to be aware of the massive change in the England squad and they are being offered at 11/8 to win this first match on Thursday.
As for India, they have also made a number of changes, but Mahindra Singh Dhoni is still the captain and knows that he has a point to prove.
His position at the helm of this India side has come under some doubt in recent weeks and the only way for him to ease the pressure is with good performances and wins out on the pitch.
Betting on a win for the home team in this one will give you odds of 8/13 with Boylesports, so they are certainly the favourites. T20 is a game that the Indians pride themselves on and anything other than a series win will be considered a big failure, especially against their fairly inexperienced opponents.
Bets on the top batsman are always popular for cricket, especially Twenty20, and England’s Eoin Morgan is currently the favourite to score the most runs for his side as he is at 7/2 with Blue Square.
India’s Gautam Gambhir is an experienced member of the squad and he also has odds of 7/2 with Ladbrokes.
In terms of a recommended bet though, we fancy England bowler Tim Bresnan to put in a big performance and take the Man of the Match award. Bresnan is capable of scoring a few runs as well and is sure to be leading the attack, so he could be good value at 25/1 with Bet365.
One thing is for sure in this format of the game, entertainment is guaranteed.
