Australia and West Indies go head to head in a five match One Day International series, which starts on Friday in Perth. It should be a cracking few encounters between two sides that are strong in the 50-over format of the game with big hitting, entertainment and drama are all but guaranteed.
As they are on home soil, Australia will of course be the favourites with the bookmakers for this match and the series, but they also know just how good West Indies can be on their day.
Twenty20 cricket is where the touring side are at their best, but they are still a strong outfit in ODI’s.
Michael Clarke is the man captaining the Aussie team of course and with the form he has shown in the last couple of years, is sure to be a key man throughout the series.
Under Clarke’s leadership, the Wallabies have been a strong outfit that seem determined to succeed. They know they must start the series flying to get the crowd right behind them from the off and at the moment, you can get odds of 4/7 with Stan James on them taking a 1-0 lead.
There seems to be a good balance between youth and experience in the Australia squad and they are in good shape right now.
As for West Indies, you know how they are going to go about their game – all out attack. Sometimes they can record scores of over 300 and others they are bowled out for a low total.
They seem to have shown a bit more consistency under captain Darren Sammy though and do have the quality to come out on top here.
A bet on the West Indies taking a 1-0 lead in Perth can be backed at 13/8 with Betfred.
A lot might depend on how Chris Gayle performs in this one, with both bat and ball. At the moment, he is the favourite to be his side’s top batsman as his chances are rated at 5/2 with Coral.
Bets on Michael Clarke setting the example for his team and scoring the most runs gives you odds of 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
We think that betting in the top batsman market is a good way to go as well, but think that Darren Bravo will be the main man for West Indies. He offers good value as well as he is at 9/2 with BetVictor.
One thing is for sure, this is going to be a cracking encounter on the west coast of Australia and it could set the tone for the rest of the series. Expect the two sides to be evenly matches, but possibly the Aussies to come out on top.
