Australia and Sri Lanka get their first One Day International of five underway from Melbourne on Friday and it should be a cracking series between these two sides. The recently played three Test matches and the Aussies claimed a 3-0 victory, but make no doubt about it, Sri Lanka are stronger in the shorter format of the game and will challenge the home side.
Australia are a team with a lot of confidence right now though and they will be looking to claim another comfortable victory over their opponents here.
Michael Clarke is not involved in this series though and George Bailey will be given the task of captaining the side. It might be a tough job stepping into Clarke’s shows, but Bailey will be relishing the opportunity to lead his men to a victory here in Melbourne.
Unsurprisingly, the Wallabies are the favourites to take a 1-0 lead here as they are at 4/7 with Stan James.
The experienced players in the squad, such as David Hussey and Mitchell Johnson, have to lead by example.
As for Sri Lanka, confidence might be a bit shot after such poor performances in the Test match, but the only way to regain that is with some big displays in these ODI’s.
The Asian side seem to prefer the shorter format of Cricket and they have the personal to really cause their opponents some problems.
Mahela Jayewardene is the captain of this Sri Lankan team and he will have to lead from the front, as he always does. Jayewardene can be one of the best batsmen around when on form and he needs to produce some big knocks here.
Also, the tourists have Tillakaratne Dilshan to call upon, a man who can be destructive with the bat and hit the ball all over the park.
A bet on a win for Sri Lanka in Melbourne does offer a good bit of value as well as they are at 7/4 with Bet365, so although the bookmakers have them as outsiders, they are still not being written off.
Bets on who might be the top bowler in this one could be the way to go as both sides have plenty of talent in that department.
It is Johnson of Australia who is the most likely to be the top man with the ball for his team in this one as he is at 7/2 with Ladbrokes.
You can then get odds of 5/2 with William Hill that the experienced Lasith Malinga will be Sri Lanka’s best bowler here.
Betting on the Man of the Match is always a good idea in cricket matches and we fancy David Hussey to produce one of his special performances and claim the award. This happening is at 13/1 with Paddy Power.
We should be in for 100 overs of entertainment here.
